What exactly makes avocados so great?

03-24-2017

Today’s Video of the Day comes from the American Chemical Society’s Reactions series and features a look at what makes avocados so great.

First thing’s first: avocados are a fruit, but not just any fruit. They come packed with fiber, potassium, Vitamin B12, Vitamin E, monounsaturated Fats, antioxidants, and healthy fats that allow the body to absorb more nutrients. Additionally, the thick skin of the avocado prevents its interior from absorbing pesticides.

Inside, avocados contain over 11 different carotenoids which help to prevent heart disease and cancer.
