The Eastern United States from space

10-06-2018

Today’s Video of the Day from the European Space Agency features the eastern region of the United States as it appears from the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellite.

The picture contains a number of states including Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia, and Delaware.

New York City, which is visible in the upper right portion of the image, is considered to be a megacity – a city with a population of more than 10 million people.

Along the Atlantic coastline, sediment that has been washed away can be seen swirling in the ocean. Sediment and algae are also visible in Lake Erie.

This true-color image was captured using the Sentinel’s Ocean and Land Color Instrument (OLCI).
