Carlotta's tiger moth

Description

Apantesis carlotta, or Carlotta's tiger moth, is a moth of the family Erebidae. It was described by Douglas C. Ferguson in 1985. It is found in the US from Maine to Georgia, west to North Dakota and Texas. The wingspan is about 30 mm (1.2 in). The larvae have been reared on Lactuca species. Apantesis is a genus of tiger moths in the family Erebidae first described by Francis Walker in 1855. They are found in North and Central America. As a result of phylogenetic research published in 2016, the genera Grammia, Holarctia, and Notarctia have been merged with Apantesis, and their species are now members of the genus Apantesis.
