Bucculatrix cantabricella

(Bucculatrix cantabricella)

Description

Bucculatrix cantabricella is a moth in the Bucculatricidae family. It was described by Pierre Chrétien in 1898. It is found in the western and central Mediterranean region, east to Slovakia and the Republic of Macedonia. The wingspan is 7–8 mm. The larvae feed on Convolvulus cantabrica. They mine the leaves of their host plant. The mine has the form of a narrow corridor, followed by an irregular blotch. Pupation takes place outside of the mine, in a whitish, spindle-shaped cocoon. Larvae can be found in June. The species probably overwinters in the pupal stage.
