Acmaeoderella cyanipennis

(Acmaeoderella cyanipennis)

galery

Description

Acmaeoderella form a genus within the subfamily Polycestinae in the jewel beetle family (Buprestidae). The beetles are cylindrical, their elytra are fused together. A sign is not visible. It is suspected that in the course of evolution the greatly expanded scutellum has grown together with the elytra. All species of this genus specialize in flowers. As beetles, they eat their leaves. In contrast to the genus Acmaeodera, some species from southern Europe can live and find their food in dead and dry wood as well as in dry stalks of grasses.
