Description

The Blabephorus penguin is a species of beetle. It was first described by Leon Fairmaire in 1898. Blabephorus pinguis belongs to the genus Blabephorus, and family Dynastidae. Blabephorus is a genus of beetles belonging to the group of horn beetles in the family Scarabaeidae. Only one species is known, Blabephorus pinguis. A large, glossy, brown to dark brown beetle. The male has a curved horn in the forehead, this is relatively short. Pronotum is deep and wide hollowed out in front, on each side of the hollow there is a pointed tuber or short tooth. The female also has a certain hollow in front of the pronotum, but smaller than the male. The species appears to be associated with wasp nests that lie down in the ground, but it is not known what lies behind this. It is widespread from India in the west to Sumatra in the east.
