Phyllonorycter connexella

Description

Phyllonorycter connexella is a moth of the family Gracillariidae. It is found from Fennoscandia to the Pyrenees and Italy and from France to central Russia and Ukraine. The larvae feed on Populus alba, Populus x canadensis, Populus nigra, Populus nigra cv. 'Italica', Salix alba, Salix fragilis, Salix pentandra and Salix purpurea. They mine the leaves of their host plant. They create a lower-surface tentiform mine, usually between two side veins. There is one strong lengthwise fold. The pupa is made in a cocoon. The frass is incorporated in the sides of the cocoon.
