Description

Apamea rubrirena is a moth of the family Noctuidae. It is found from northern and western Europe, east through Russia and Asia to Japan and Korea. It is also present on the Kuril Islands, the Aleutian Islands and has been reported from Alaska for the first time in 1989. This wingspan is 40–51 mm. Adults are on wing from June to August and sometimes September in favourable conditions. There is one generation per year. The larvae feed on a various grasses, including Festuca altissima and Calamagrostis arundinacea. Adults have been found taking nectar from Rubus, Cirsium oleraceum, Silene vulgaris and Phyteuma.
