Delias heroni

Description

Delias heroni is a butterfly in the family Pieridae. It was described by George Hamilton Kenrick in 1909. It is found in New Guinea (Arfak Mountains). The wingspan is about 45 mm. Males are white, with a black distal half on the forewings and a black border on the hindwings. The black area of the forewing extends into the end of the cell, and sometimes fills the base of cellule 3 and the outer two-thirds of 2. The hindwings have a broad black border between the apex and vein 4, and then becoming a heavy line to the inner angle. Females have the proximal areas creamy-white or tinged with yellow, the forewings with the black distal area more extended than in the males, and its edge less sharply defined. There are traces of two or three yellow subapical spots.
