Description

Neocottus werestschagini is a deepwater sculpin. It was described by Dmitrii Nikolaevich Taliev in 1935, originally under the genus Abyssocottus. It is a rare freshwater, deep water-dwelling fish which is endemic to Lake Baikal, in Russia. It dwells at a depth range of 877 to 1,400 metres (2,877 to 4,593 ft), and inhabits silty sand sediments. Males can reach a maximum total length of 9.8 centimetres (3.9 in). The diet of N. werestschagini consists of bony fish, gammarids, and debris.
