The cabecigualda mohoua (Mohoua ochrocephala) is a small bird passerine insectivorous,endemic of the South Island of New Zealand.Although abounded in the nineteenth century,particularly in the forests of have of Nelson,in the region of Southland and Stewart Island,was drastically reduced its population in the twentieth century due to the introduction of rats and weasels in ships arriving in New Zealand.Today they have disappeared from almost 75% of their former distribution area.In New Zealand,the Mohua has the status of endemic species threatened,and as such,protected.Conservation efforts are being made to guarantee their survival,establishing populations in several predator- free islands,such asIslands of Breaksea and Ulva.
