Description

The red-backed ally ( Todiramphus pyrrhopygius ) is a species of coraciiforme bird of the family Halcyonidae endemic of Australia.Its plumage is predominantly green blue and white with the rump reddish brown.It is found throughout the Australian continent,mainly in arid regions.The red-backed lotion measures between 20-22.5 cm.Its pileus is mottled green in white,its tail and wings are bluish green,and the lower part of the back,the rump and the upper coverts of the tails are reddish brown,and its chest,belly and neck are White color.It has a black stripe that goes from the peak to the nape through the eyes.The females are more muted tones.Its iris is dark brown and its legs are dark gray.The juveniles have a marbled breast.Their call is a descending whistle,and it has a piercing alarm call that they emit when they are near the nest.
