Description

The teal attera (Anas aucklandica Gray,1844),also called the Auckland teal,is a bird of the family of the Anatidae.The teal ather is smaller than the brown teal of the main islands of New Zealand,once thought to be its conspecific.The plumage is brownish,but there are green reflections on the neck and a characteristic white ring around the eyes.The female is also a bit 'darker than the male.The wings are very small and this species has lost its ability to fly.
