Description

The porr of Baer (Aythya baeri) is a species of bird anseriforme of the family Anatidae that lives in the east of Asia.It breeds in southeastern Russia, northeastern China and easternmost Mongolia, and migrates in winter to southern China, southeast Asia and the east of the Indian subcontinent,as well as Taiwan. Its name commemorates Estonian naturalist Karl Ernst von Baer.It measures between 41 and 46 cm,and has a size and silhouette similar to those of its relative the brown pochard (A.nyroca),although the coloration of its males is completely different.Baer's bark males look similar to those of the bastard duck (A.marila),but with the back and upper part of the flanks dark and the underside of the flanks and belly white.Baer pochard and brown pochard females are very similar,as well as those of almost all species of the genus Aythya.Eclipse males resemble females but keep their eyes white.
