Description

The Peruvian nocturnal mico ( Aotus miconax ) is a species of primate platirrino of the genus Aotus endemic in Peru.Adults weigh around 1 kg and measure around 50 cm in length.Its color varies from gray to light brown with black and white markings on the face.The chest,belly and upper limbs have an orange tinge,however,it is less evident than in Aotus nigriceps.It is one of the least known monkeys in the New World.The IUCN considers the species as vulnerable and is considered threatened under Peruvian law.It is one of the less studied species of primates.The few data that are known about the species come from museum specimens,reports of sightings and scarce ecological information.The species inhabits a cloud forest area between 900 and 2800 meters above sea ​​level in the Peruvian departments of Amazonas,Huánuco and San Martín and in regions adjoining with bordering departments.It measures about seventy centimeters in length (of which two thirds are due to the tail),for a weight of about one kilogram.
