Description

The blue antelope or nilgai ( Boselaphus tragocamelus ( Pallas,1766 )) is an artiodactyl mammal native to the Indian subcontinent.It is the only species of the genus Boselaphus.It is an antelope that has a height at the withers of 120-150 cm,a total length of 180-200 cm,and a weight of 120 to 240 kg.The coat is yellow-brown in females and blue-gray in adult males;the young specimens are light brown.They have white spots on the face and under the chin;the abdomen is also whitish in color.In males below the throat there is a tuft of hairs,or "beard",which can be up to 13 centimeters long;the males also have curved horns about 20-25 cm long,black.They have thin legs with black and white bands immediately above the hooves.
