Description

The red cephalopop ( Cephalophus natalensis A.Smith,1834 ),also known as the Natal cephaopopus,is a small cephaopophus native to the forests and scrublands of central and southern Africa.With a length of 75-87 cm and a weight of 12-14 kg,this small and stubby antelope has a beautiful red-brown coat,thanks to which it can,strangely,hide its presence in the chiaroscuro areas of the forest.Both the male and the female have short,upright backward horns,hidden by a tuft of long and thick black-brown hairs.The horns of the males are about twice the length of those of the females.The edges of the ears,the chin,the throat and the lower part of the tail (9-14 cm long) are white,while the upper part of the tail,the ears and the muzzle are black.The hairs of the neck become gray-blue with age and in front of each eye there is a characteristic odoriferous gland,long and thin
