Description

The striated tragelafo is the smallest antelope of the genus Tragelaphus to which belong,among others,the nyala,the cudù and the sitatunga.It is about 70-76 cm tall and weighs 50 to 80 kg.The color of the back and the hips goes from light tawny to the dark brown females in the males,which are also darker in the lower parts.The body is abundantly spotted and streaked with white;there are several white spots on the throat,two spots on the cheeks below the eyes and traces of white around the lips and chin.In addition,white stripes are present in the inside of the legs,instead on the body there are various spots and stripes in all directions.The design of these,in fact,varies greatly in the 8 existing subspecies.
