Description

The golden toad or Monteverde toad (Incilius periglenes) was a species of anuran amphibian that lived in a few places in the forest of Monteverde,in Costa Rica,in Central America.It is classified by the IUCN as extinct 1 since,since 1989,not a single copy has been seen.They were first described in 1966 by herpetologist Jay Savage.Since 1989,a single I.periglenes has not been sighted or registered anywhere in the world.Its sudden disappearance is cited as part of the decline in amphibian populations,which may be attributable to climate change caused by global warming,an epidemic of amphibian-specific fungi,or other factors,combined or independent.This species only lived in a small high altitude region of the cloud forest in Monteverde,in an area of ​​approximately 10 km²,at 1,500 meters above sea level.
