Passerina cyanea (Linnaeus,1766) is a small bird of the Cardinalidae family.Widespread from Canada to Venezuela,it is a migratory bird recognizable by its blue color,hence its name.It measures about 13 cm long.The beak is short,conical in shape.The male with its breeding plumage in spring and summer is indigo blue.When it winters in southern countries,it is brown with some scattered blue feathers,more abundant in the rump.The female and the young are chestnut colored on the back,at the bottom it is lighter with the chest with a light scratch and the slightly brown-browned wings.It is grouped in small flocks.They eat seeds,small fruits and insects,often on the ground.
