Description

The white- coated rhinopithecus ( Rhinopithecus brelichi Thomas,1903 ),also known as gray rhinopithecus or rhinopithecus of Guizhou,is a primate of the Cercopithecid family.The adults are covered by long and thin hairs,generally of a color that from the brown of the upper part of the body fades into the gray of the lower one,with a white spot between the shoulder blades.The head,neck and extremity of the limbs are black,except for the sopracciliary region,golden in color.The chest is also golden,while the inner part of the knees and upper limbs is brown.On the face there is an area of ​​hairless skin of bluish-white color,which becomes pink around the eyes and the mouth;the protruding eyebrow and the reduced nasal bones give the impression that it has the trunk-like nose.The young are gray,with gradations that vary according to age.Adult males are more vividly colored than adult females,and show a striking white skin area on prominent nipples.Data concerning the dimensions are limited,but two adult males weighed an average of 14.5 kg,and an adult female weighed 8 kg;the head-body length is 64-73 cm and the tail measures 70-97 cm.
