Description

The deer-deer is a small species of deer characterized by a prominent tuft of black hairs on the forehead and prominent canines in males.It is very evolutionarily close to Muntiacus,living farther north,in a wide region of central China and northeastern Myanmar.Although suffering from hunted and habitat loss,this deer is not at risk of extinction.It is the only member of the genus Elaphodus.It is restricted to mountainous forests above 4500 m above sea level.
