Chaetodon rainfordi

(Chaetodon rainfordi)

Description

Chaetodon rainfordi is a species of marine angelfish with a range restricted to Papua New Guinea, the Great Barrier Reef and Lord Howe Island. Greater than 50% of its distribution is within the protected waters of Australia's Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. There has been a significant population decline of C. rainfordi in the Great Barrier Reef due to extensive coral loss, its primary food source. It inhabits coastal and offshore reefs at depths of 5–20 metres (16–66 ft).
