Description

Acanthochelys macrocephala is a tortoise from the family of snake-necked turtles (Chelidae).The species was first scientifically described by Anders Gunnar Johannes Rhodin,Russell Alan Mittermeier and J.Robert McMorris in 1984.Originally,the scientific name Platemys macrocephala was used.The scientific name macrocephala roughly translated means 'long head' and is a composite of ancient Greek μακρός ( makros ) 'long' and κεφαλή ( kephale ),"head / head.
