Description

The red-headed malcoha ( Phaenicophaeus pyrrhocephalus ) is a species of cuculiform bird of the family Cuculidae endemic to Sri Lanka.It is a species of considerable size that measures around 46 cm in length,including its long tail.Its back and wings are dark green and the top of its tail is green with white tip.The lower parts are white,with the exception of the upper part of the chest that is black like the neck and the pileus,while the lower part of the head is also white.It has a large red caruncle around the eyes that occupies almost the entire face.Its beak is light green.Both sexes have a similar appearance,although juveniles are more muted tones.Unlike most cuculiformes,it is a rather silent species,which only emits a kind of loose grunting.
