Description

The tucuxi is often described as very similar to the bottlenose dolphin. However,it is smaller,in particular, the fluvial variety (1.5 m),which is smaller than its marine counterpart (up to 2.1 m).The coloration is bluish gray laterally and dorsally;the ventral region is much clearer, often pink in the fluvial ecotype and gray in the marine environment. The dorsal fin has the typical hook shape, especially among riverine groups. The snout is well defined and is of a moderate length.
