Description

Micrurus tener is a species of venomous snake in the family Elapidae. The species is endemic to the southern United States and northeastern and central Mexico. There are four recognized subspecies; the nominotypical subspecies, Micrurus tener tener, which is found in both the US and Mexico, is commonly known as the Texas coral snake. This species was once considered to be a subspecies of the eastern coral snake (Micrurus fulvius).
