Description

The indefinite highland sparrow (Spizella wortheni) is a species of passerine bird of the family Passerellidae that is distributed in the Mexican High Plateau.It is considered a species in danger of extinction by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.It is similar to the reproductive plumage of the black-crowned sparrow (S.passerina).Like this one,the altiplanero sparrow has brown upper parts listed with dark,except for the rump that is gray.However,the tonality of the upper parts is more grayish.The lower parts are pale gray.Also,there is a reddish crown on the top of the head,with some darker stripes only visible close up.More obviously,it is distinguished from its close relatives by its gray face without evident supraocular stripe,gray forehead,pink beak and dark legs.The juveniles are almost completely pale brown,with abundant stripes on face,back,chest and belly.
