Description

Mindanao Gymnure is a species of mammals insectivores land the family of Erinaceidae.It is endemic to the island of Mindanao,Philippines.It's kind of hedgehogs without spines,like all gymnures,which looks a bit like a shrew.They are medium-sized terrestrial animals,13 to 15 cm long.The tail is about 1/3 of the body and measures 4 to 7 cm.They are gray on the back,with some harder brown hairs mixed with their fur made of long,thick and soft hairs.On the belly the fur is less dense,mixed with white and brown.The tail,less hairy,is purplish beige.The legs are bare and show rosy skin and the hind limbs measure 3.1 to 3.7 cm.Their muzzle carries long vibrios.The species is differentiated from its neighbor,Podogymnura aureospinula,by the absence of brown dorsal dorsal line mottled with black.There is apparently no sexual dimorphism.
