Description

Measure 14-16 cm in length,for a weight of 17-30 g The appearance is similar in the whole to that of the other finches,although more massive. The livery is very distinctive and presents sexual dicromatism: the males,during the breeding period,show the black head,back,wings and tail of the same color (with the single feathers which appear brown edged on the back and reddish on wings and tail,with presence on the first also of the characteristic that in the other finches appear white),under-petticoat,underarm and low white tummy,throat,chest,shoulder blades and reddish hips (the latter with black maculation).
