Description

The Azores bullfinch (Pyrrhula murina Godman,1866) is a passerine bird belonging to the Fringillidae family.Dimensions : Measure 16-17 cm in length,for a weight of 30 g: for the same age,the males are slightly larger and more robust than the females.Appearance: The appearance of these birds is typical of bullfinches,massive and robust,with a large head and a stubby and massive beak,rounded in shape.The plumage is dominated by shades of brown,with grayish shades on the throat,chest and back,while wings,tail,cap and face mask are black,with gray coverts: the tail and the undertail are whitish.Unlike the other species of bullfinch,in these birds there is not a marked sexual dicromatism,with the two sexes virtually identical and the males that only sporadically can present pinkish nuances in the ventral area.
