Description

Cuora yunnanensis is a turtle from the family Geoemydidae.The species was first scientifically described by George Albert Boulenger in 1906.Originally,the scientific name Cyclemys yunnanensis was used.The back shield is not very large with a length of up to 14 centimeters and is rather flat in shape.The color of both the belly and back shield is brown to olive,with dark spots on the belly side.Sometimes a large orange-brown spot is present on each belly plate.The head has the same color as the shield and has a yellow stripe from the eye to the neck and a line from the corner of the mouth to the neck.The chin and throat are orange to yellow with olive-colored spots.The muzzle is pointed,the upper jaw has no beak shape like with similar species.Males can be distinguished from females by a longer and thicker tail and cloaca protruding outside the shield.
