Description

Vijayachelys silvatica is a turtle from the family Geoemydidae.The species was first scientifically described by John Robertson Henderson in silvatica.Originally the scientific name Geoemyda silvatica was used.The turtle is indicated in other languages ​​with yellow-headed turtle or red-headed turtle.The species used to belong to the genera Geoemyda and Heosemys.It is nowadays the only species in the monotypical genus Vijayachelys.This family is named after the Indian herpetologist Jaganath Vijaya.
