Description

The Greek lizard ( Hellenolacerta thighed Bedriaga,1886 ),the only species of the genus Hellenolacerta Arnold,Arribas and Carranza,2007,is a reptile scaled belonging to the family of lizards.It is a relatively large lizard,but at the same time slender and flattened,with a long,pointed head and a 6-8 cm long body;the tail is about 2-2.5 times longer.A characteristic trait is the color of the back,glossy and of shades from gray to brown-bronze,with a set of spots,bars or dashes that in any case do not form longitudinal bands.The sides are slightly darker in color,with light macules,while the belly goes from yellow to orange,in turn spotted.The males are characterized by marginal ventral shields of blue color,and often by 3-4 blue ocellated spots clearly visible on the sides.Even the scales of the head have a conformation typical of this species,for example in the area of ​​the cheeks are not developed large shields.
