Description

The Indian hare (Lepus nigricollis), also known as the black-naped hare, is a common species of hare native to the Indian subcontinent, and Java. It has been introduced to Madagascar, Comoro Islands, Andaman Islands, Irian Jaya, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, Mayotte, Mauritius and Réunion. Lepus nigricollis is a species of Lagomorpha described by F. Cuvier in 1823. Lepus nigricollis belongs to the genus Lepus, and the family Leporidae. The IUCN classifies the species as endangered.
