Rhadinoloricaria macromystax

(Rhadinoloricaria macromystax)

Description

Rhadinoloricaria macromystax is the only species of the monotypic genus Rhadinoloricaria, a genus of the family Loricariidae of catfish (order Siluriformes). Rhadinoloricaria is part of the Pseudohemiodon group of the tribe Loricariini in the subfamily Loricariinae. Apistoloricaria and Crossoloricaria include fish that are very similar to Rhadinoloricaria, and it has been proposed that the former two genera be synonymized with the latter. This species is native to Ecuador and Peru where it occurs upper Amazon and Orinoco River basins, Essequibo, and Tocantins drainages. P. menezesi is known to occur over sandy substrates. P. menezesi reaches a length of 14.2 centimetres (5.6 in) SL. This fish species is relatively unknown and uncommon in museum collections; also, ecological and behavioral data is unavailable for this species.
