Description

Melanocetus niger is a species of black seadevil, a type of anglerfish. Another name for this species is Melanocetidae. Melanocetus niger are fish with big mouths, with plenty of long teeth, and numerous fin rays. The fish is bathypelagic and has been found at depths ranging from 1,200 to 2,000 metres (3,900 to 6,600 ft). It is endemic to the eastern Pacific Ocean off the coast of Chile. Anywhere around 1,500 meters below the surface of the water, people have used open nets to catch around ninety percent of the species. The Melanocetus Niger has anywhere between 51-87 teeth on their upper jaw and between 37-57 teeth on the lower jaw; the longest tooth can measures 0-4 inches long.
