Description

The singing mellero or melodic myrtle ( Lichenostomus virescens ) is a species of passerine bird of the Meliphagidae family native to Australia.The bird lives in a wide variety of shrubs,forests and coastal habitats.It is relatively common and widespread in Australia west of the Great Divide Range,traversing the west coast and the islands off the coast of Western Australia.It does not appear in other countries.It was originally named Meliphaga virescens lipferti,although it is now known as Lichenostomus virescens.The species can vary in length (17 to 22 cm ).The color of its plumage varies in gray to brown tones.The tail and wings are olive green with flashes of yellow.It has a wide black stripe behind the peak to the back,and a yellow stripe immediately below it to the eye.The song of the bird oscillates between rough and melodious;It also varies according to where you live.The singing honeybird has many close relatives with a generally similar appearance or some details in common,with overlapping distributions and similar voices,so a bird identification guide with images could be essential to achieve a clear identity.
