Description

Nycteris javanica is a bat mouse described by E.Geoffroy 1813.Nycteris javanica is part of the genus Nycteris and the family hålnäsor.IUCN categorizes the species globally as vulnerable.No subspecies are listed in the Catalog of Life.Wilson & Reeder (2005) distinguishes between two subspecies.The species occurs on Java,in East Timor and on smaller islands in the same region.It lives in the lowlands and in mountain ranges up to 2,500 meters above sea level.Individuals reside alone or in pairs in caves that are adjacent to forests or near tree-lined gardens.Perhaps Nycteris javanica,like other cavities,uses the cavities of the tree as a sleeping place.
