The South American fur seal ( Arctocephalus australis ) is a species of fur seal that reproduces on the coasts of Chile and Argentina.Its population is around 250,000 specimens.In 1999 the population of this species was evaluated on 390,000 specimens,many less than the 500,000 in 1987.Despite all the colonies of this animal enjoy perfect health,this decline in population is causing some concern.The largest number of these sea lions,200,000,meets along the coasts of Uruguay.
