Polynemus multifilis

Description

Polynemus multifilis, commonly known as the elegant paradise fish, is a fish of the threadfin family Polynemidae. It is known from the Chao Phraya River in Thailand, the Musi and Batanghari rivers in Sumatra, Indonesia, and the Barito and Sampit rivers in Borneo, Indonesia. It lives in fresh water over a sandy or muddy bottom in the middle and lower parts of rivers. It co-occurs with close relatives like P. aquilonaris in the Chao Phraya River, and it is replaced by others elsewhere, like P. kapuasensis in Kapuas River. P. multifilis grows to a standard length of 28 cm (11 in). It is often caught and sold as a food fish, and occasionally exported as an aquarium fish.
