Description

The petrels of Trindade ( Trindade Petrel ),also known as heraldry petrel,petrel Trindade or heraldic petrel,is a species of bird marina of the family of the petrels or skates (Procellariidae).It measures 35-39 cm in length and 88-102 cm in span.It has 2 colors,a dark phase and a lighter phase,with diffusions between both.There are also 2 separate populations: one is in the South Pacific Ocean,sometimes seen even in Hawaii,and the other is observed in the South Atlantic Ocean,nesting in Brazil,with rare observations in the Gulf Stream,near the southeast of the United States.The little-known subspecies Pterodroma pacifica (arminjoniana) heraldica can be a distinct species (herald petrel).It nests on ledges of rock,ridges or rocky slopes on oceanic islands and atolls.On some islands,this nesting bird is threatened by wildcatsand rats.Due to the habitat that lost and the small amount of offspring,this species is classified as "vulnerable" in the Red List of the IUCN (threatened species).In May 2007,a herald petrel was seen on Raine Island (1984).Raine Island is a cay coral 32 hectares and is located on the outer edges of the Great Barrier Reef,approximately 620 km northwest of Cairns,Queensland,Australia.
