Description

Agapornis lilianae is a species of psitaciforme bird of the family Psittaculidae native of East Africa.It is similar to Agapornis fischeri;it differs by the reddish and orange mask more defined and dark,and it lacks the blue one in the belly of the Fischer.It measures 14 cm and is quite common as a pet,for its gregarious and sociable character that,in the wild,allows it to form large and noisy flocks of more than 50 specimens.They live in southern Tanzania,Malawi and northwest Mozambique.This species is very studied in South Africa "Research Project" conducted by the "Research Center for Parrot Conservation" of the University of KwaZulu-Natal.Studies to better understand their ecology and conservation.It is in the Liwonde National Park (LNP).The farms have taken away habitat,and only the National Parks are left.Another place of protection is "Miombo Forest Reserves".The LNP is found in the southern region of Malawi,where there is a very high human density of 100-115 inhabitants / km² (FAO,1997).The nearby pesticide applications massively kill sp.and others.This species has proven difficult to breed in captivity.
