Saint Lucia parrot

Description

The ' Amazon of Saint Lucia ( Amazona versicolor ) is a bird of the family of Psittacidae.Similar to the Amazon but similar in the plumage to the red- blooded Amazon,characterized by a blue facial mask,blackish beak and red breast,this species,of remarkable size,43 cm,is endemic to the humid forests of the mountains of the island of Saint Lucia.It is in serious danger of extinction due to the reduction of its habitat that from 1950 to 1970 has dropped from about 300 square km to about 70.The census population is around 400 individuals.
