Description

The red-backed parakeet ( Psephotus haematonotus ) is a species of psittaciform bird of the family Psittaculidae that lives in the south-east of Australia,especially in the basin of the Murray-Darling.The red-backed parakeet is slender and measures around 28 cm in length,including its long tail.The plumage of the male is mainly intense emerald green in the upper parts and yellow in the lower ones,with the red rump the lower yellow parts,with blue markings on the wings and upper part of the back.The plumage of the female is of less intense tones,with the upper parts green olive and the lower ones lighter,with the tips of the wings of blackish blue color.The red that of the bishop that gives name to the species is found only in males.
