Description

The lori iris ( Psitteuteles iris ) is a species of psittaciform bird of the family Psittaculidae endemic to the Wetar and Timor islands.The iris lori is a small parrot,about 20 cm long.Its plumage is intense green in the upper parts and yellowish green in the lower ones.The males of the nominal subspecies have the front and front part of the red pileus,the nape yellowish and between both there is a band dotted with red,green and violet blue.Its eye ring and its ear coverts are violet blue and its cheeks yellowish green.The females are almost identical but their red spot is less extensive and is dotted with green and more yellow cheeks.The peak of both is orange.The juveniles resemble the females but with the brownish beak and the purple bands of less intense tones.The extension of red and purplish blue varies among the subspecies.
