Description

The flying fox with the monkey face of Fiji ( Mirimiri acrodonta Hill & Beckon,1978 ) is a bat belonging to the Pteropodidae family,the only species of the genus Mirimiri ( Helgen,2005 ),endemic to one of the Fiji IslandsMid-sized bat,with the length of the forearm between 116 and 120 mm and a weight up to 250 gThe fur is long and woolly,shorter on the back.The general color of the body is brownish,sprinkled with brighter hairs on the shoulders and on the rump.The snout is long and tapered,the eyes are large,with the bright orange iris.The ears are short and almost completely hidden in the fur.The tibia is densely covered with hairs in the dorsal part and practically without hairs ventrally.The wing membranes are attached on the back very close to each other.It has no tail,while the uropatagus is reduced to a thin membrane along the inside of the lower limbs.The calcar is short.
