Description

Ammospermophilus nelsoni is a mammalian species first described by Clinton Hart Merriam 1893.Ammospermophilus nelsoni is included in the genus Ammospermophilus and the family squirrels.No subspecies are listed.The body is cylindrical and tapered at both ends,with small,rounded ears,small but strong legs,and a long,sleek tail.It has yellow brown to reddish fur with a white stripe along each side.On the head it has a white ring around each eye.The winter coat is darker than the summer coat.The male is slightly larger than the female,with a body length between 23 to almost 27 cm,against the female 23 to over 25 cm.The weight varies between 142 and 179 g.
