Description

The penguin antipodean Megadyptes antipodes (Hombron & Jacquinot,1841)),also called Penguin occhigialli or Hoiho in the Maori language,is a bird belonging to the family of Sfeniscidi,spread to New Zealand.It is the only living species of the genus Megadyptes.It is a medium-sized penguin (it reaches a maximum of 65 cm in height and 5/6 kg in weight).The plumage of adults is yellow with black feathers on the head.It also has a lighter band tending to white that goes from the base of the beak to the nape,through the eyes that are also yellow.The ventral part of the body is greyish-white while the dorsal part,wings and tail are black.The legs and the beak are of flesh color.The young have a light gray colored head,almost no yellow,and do not have a clear band around the eyes,which are gray and not yellow.
