Cherry-throated tanager

(Nemosia rourei)

Description

It measures between 12.5 and 14 cm in length and weighs 22 g.It has a red spot on the throat and the center of the upper chest that contrasts with the white of the rest of the chest and belly.It has on its head a black mask that extends from the forehead through the eyes,to the nape of the neck,with a small white line running over it.The upper part is gray,darker on the back.The wings and tail,with a square tip,are black,with blue shades on the primary and secondary coverts of the wings and gray patches on the tertiary shirts and shoulders.The feathers under the tail are black and long,with white tips.The legs are dull pink and the iris is dark yellow.
